About Me
I currently live and work in sunny Florida. I was raised in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. When I was younger, I was encouraged to pursue education and career interests that would lead to fulfilling my family's goals for me. I always did artwork, often hiding my devotion to the craft I loved. After graduating high school in Haiti, I went on to North Carolina A&T State University obtaining a BS and MS in Applied Mathematics. While I studied hard and succeeded in these endeavors’ art was always in my heart and on my mind.
In my twenties I moved to Virginia where I began my career as a Software Engineer eventually advancing into the role of an Operations Research Analyst. But I always made time to pursue my art, to hone my craft, and to express myself through media including watercolor, pastel, graphite pencils and oil. I work in several mediums; however, I am most attracted to oil because for me, there is a depth and feel I can’t find in any other. I believe in creativity, imagination and self-expression. Art is more about communicating what I am feeling than what I am seeing. I portray my subjects in surroundings that are relevant to their lives and/or in a manner that best captures their emotions at the time. I think of my work as a celebration and affirmation of life. Each portrait is an adventure, a love and curiosity of the human figure.
It took some time for me to “come out” as an artist. I spent a great deal of time studying and starting a career; of course, marrying and beginning a family happened along the way as well. Yet, somehow, art was always there for me. Today I see my heritage in the vibrant colors and fresh attitudes that permeate my creations. While I prefer to draw portraits I find myself always willing to adapt and grow and explore new subject matter. Now, this self-taught artist is sharing all I learned, that I teach classes to adults and children in the hope that they, too, might find their unique style of self-expression.
Today, if I am asked what I do or even who I am, I am proud to answer...I am an artist.
